Facelift for a Firmer Jawline in Colts Neck & Brick, NJ
Wrinkle injections and fillers may have helped soften lines and restore volume over the years, but what about the loose skin along your jawline? As skin laxity becomes more noticeable, injectables alone may not give you the definition you’re looking for. In Colts Neck and Brick, NJ, plastic surgeon Dr. Louis Iorio performs facelift surgery to address sagging skin and underlying tissues, helping create a smoother, more defined jawline.
A week and a half ago Dr. Iorio did a neck and facelift on me. I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Does This Sound Like You? Signs a Facelift May Be the Next Step
Maybe it’s moments like these:
Years of injections, and the jowls along your jaw are still there.
Photos make you look tired or cross on days you feel fine.
Your eyes and forehead still look young, but the loose skin on your neck doesn’t.
You’d love a change, just not to look “done”.
What Facelift Surgery Does for Your Face and Neck
A facelift, known medically as a rhytidectomy, lifts the tissue under your skin on the lower face and neck, then redrapes the skin and trims the excess.
As you heal, you may notice:
A firmer, better-defined jawline, with the jowls lifted
A smoother neck, with loose skin and fat under the chin tightened in the same surgery
Cheeks lifted back toward where they were, and softer folds from your nose to your mouth
Results that last for years, so even as you age, you’re likely to look younger than you would have without it
A more rested look that’s still your own face
What a Facelift Changes, and When You’d Want Something Else
A facelift lifts what has slipped but doesn’t change your fundamental appearance. You still look like you.
- Along your jaw, lifting deeper tissue defines the line again.
- Under your chin, neck muscles can be tightened into a firm sling.
- In your cheeks, repositioning deeper tissue softens the folds by your mouth.
A facelift won’t soften expression lines and wrinkles, fix skin tone or texture, lift brows or eyelids, or add volume. We offer surgery on your eyelids, a surgical brow lift, skin resurfacing treatments, and injectables for those, often alongside a facelift.
Unlike injections, a facelift:
- Repositions tissue and trims extra skin
- Lasts for years from one operation
- Hides incisions in the hairline and around the ear
During the consultation process and many other conversations prior to my surgery, I thought that I needed “more of this and more of that” and he did not hesitate to disagree. I definitely look better (amazing) instead of looking different.

Choosing Between a Full Facelift, a Mini Facelift, and Injectables
Your options don’t all do the same thing:
| Option | What it treats | Recovery | How long results last |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full facelift | More advanced sagging of the face, jaw, and neck | Two to four weeks | Generally over ten years |
| Mini facelift | Less loose skin; a smaller change | Faster than a full facelift | Can last up to five years |
| A neck lift | Jowls, loose neck skin, and fat under the chin | Weeks to months for swelling to settle | Years, though aging goes on |
| Injectables | Mild to moderate signs of aging | Little to no time off | Dermal filler treatments, months to years; wrinkle-relaxing injections, 3 to 4 months |
Injectables freshen your face for a while, but there’s no true non-surgical equivalent to a facelift. They can’t lift what has dropped, though they may delay the need for one.

Facelift Recovery, From Your Consultation to the First Months
It starts with a conversation. Dr. Iorio goes over your goals, health, medicines, and smoking, then your options and risks.
Next, you get ready. You may need lab tests, and you’ll stop smoking and avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatories, and some herbal supplements.
Then, surgery day. You’ll have IV sedation or general anesthesia, chosen with Dr. Iorio for your health, and someone drives you home and stays the night.
The first two weeks are for rest. Bruising and swelling fade over 10 to 14 days, and you sleep with your head raised.
After about two weeks, most people feel ready to be seen, and many return to work. No driving for a week, or hard exercise for a month.
Over the next 2 to 3 months, your face settles and feels back to normal.
They were very clear on care instructions once I got home, and even called me later that day to make sure I was doing well.

Will a Facelift Look Natural? Facelift Risks, Scars, and Who Should Wait
These are fair questions, and you deserve a straight answer to each. Serious complications after a facelift are infrequent, and your consultation starts with Dr. Iorio reviewing your health, your medicines, and what you hope to change.
Will I look pulled, or like someone else?
A facelift is meant to restore your features, not change them, so the aim is a younger, refreshed version of you rather than a “new” you. At your consultation, tell Dr. Iorio what you want and what you don’t, and he looks at your jawline and neck with you before any plan is made.
What are the risks of a facelift?
Serious problems are uncommon. In a study of 11,300 facelift patients, 1.8% had a major complication within 30 days. Bleeding under the skin, called a hematoma, was the most common, at 1.1%, and infection was 0.3%.
That’s why Dr. Iorio reviews your health, medicines, and smoking first. You stop smoking and avoid blood-thinning medicines and supplements before surgery, and someone stays with you the first night.
Will the scars show?
Once healed, the incision lines sit within your hairline and the natural contours of your face and ear, and they’re usually not noticeable once they mature. For the first four to six weeks they may look red and a little firm, then they soften and fade, taking at least a year to reach their final look.
Raised or thickened scars can happen whenever skin is cut, and the risk is higher in darker skin. Tell Dr. Iorio about any past scarring at your consultation.
Who should wait on a facelift?
A facelift suits people who are healthy, don’t smoke, have realistic expectations, and see sagging and deep folds. It’s worth waiting, or talking it through first, if you:
- Smoke, since smoking raises the risk of infection, slow healing, and skin loss
- Have a condition that slows healing
- Hope a facelift will make you look like someone else

Dr. Iorio was kind, compassionate and very understanding of my nerves.
Questions About Facelift Surgery
What is the best age for a facelift?
There’s no ideal age for a facelift. Most people who have one are between 40 and 70, but your skin’s elasticity, your health, and your goals matter more than the number. At your consultation, Dr. Iorio looks at your face and neck with you and talks through whether a facelift, a smaller procedure, or injectables suits where you are now.
Will I be asleep during my facelift?
A facelift is done under general anesthesia, where you’re asleep, or under sedation, given through an IV or with local anesthesia to numb the area. Dr. Iorio chooses which one with you, based on your health and how much surgery you’re having.
Can I have eyelid surgery or a brow lift at the same time as my facelift?
Yes. A facelift is often combined with surgery on the eyelids or a surgical brow lift, and doing them together can cost less than separate surgeries, since facility and anesthesia fees are paid once.
Will I need another facelift later?
Maybe, years from now. A facelift’s results often last 10 years or more, but your face keeps aging, and some people choose a second facelift down the road. Good results are expected but can’t be guaranteed, and some people need a second procedure to reach the result they want. Sun protection and a healthy lifestyle help results last, whichever facelift you and Dr. Iorio choose.
Can men have a facelift?
Yes. Men have facelifts too, and a man’s incision is placed to follow his beard line. It starts the same way, with a consultation with Dr. Iorio, who looks at your jaw and neck with you and talks through your options.
